THE CYBERLETTER / NEWSLETTER OF RIVER CREST CHURCH - Volume 1, Number 1 - 11/6/98
NEW BEGINNINGS!!!
- by Pastor Jim PelletierIsa 43:19 "Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, [and] rivers in the desert."
River Crest Church will have its first Sunday Morning Meeting on December 6, 1998 at 10:00 A.M. ... admission is free [*until offering time* ;-)] Y’all come! Address: 1301 Beville Road #15, Daytona Beach, Florida (Across the street from the First Union Bank, next to the Burger King <yummy>, a mere two blocks from the intersection of Clyde Morris Blvd. and Beville Rd.).
Here we are one month from launch. YES ANOTHER NEW CHURCH... but ask yourself a serious question in light of some facts. Did you know that 30,000 churches in the industrialized world right now are without pastors? Have you ever considered that if God moved a third of your town’s population to go to church on a Sunday morning, there would not be enough churches to house them? Have we done such a great job with the gospel that God would not call yet more laborers into the field?! So YES! ANOTHER NEW CHURCH!
WHY WRITE? You are reading the first in, hopefully, a series of info letters from River Crest Church. In the future, this will be source of encouragement and ministry available to you. Further, we will keep you updated on what is happening in the growth of River Crest Church as well as the ministry of Jim & Becky Pelletier. I hope this will be a fun email for you and not junk mail. Even if you’re not a Christian as such, we are writing you because we love you and we are excited at the idea of sharing with you what we are doing... that or because you’re family or friends and we thought you would have to read this <joke>. Understand, that our intention in writing is to share with you. NO, WE WILL NOT BE ASKING YOU FOR MONEY. We will ask you for prayer, encouragement, input, and we will tell you the needs of the work.
WHERE DID "RIVER CREST CHURCH" GET ITS NAME? It does not get its name from a subdivision or a section of town, but from Ezekiel 47:9; "everything shall live wherever the river flows." The passage refers to a river that flows from under the throne of God that runs into the sea of humanity healing the nations. We are not so grandiose as to assume that our new little assembly of believers is THE single representation of this, but it is what God laid on our hearts as how we should identify ourselves. RCC is to be there for the family, for the broken hearted and bound, for those wanting dignity and for those wanting to discover their destiny... hey! I’m reading like a preacher here, cool. Anyway, that is how we got our name.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW? Now, we are doing a couple of things to reach out to folks which includes you!
First, is THE RIVER LINE , a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week devotional line that you can leave a prayer request on. Devotions are one minute in length. The # is (904) 258-9156. That is a free local call in the Daytona Beach area. Outside of Daytona Beach, if you dial 1010811 then 1-904-258-9156, you’ll find that the call will cost you .20, that’s .10 a minute! Call it every day long distance and it will cost you only $6 a month on your phone bill.
Second, is our entries to the World Wide Web! Soon, very soon, we are going to have The River Line web site which will mirror the phone line and yet be different... we’ll keep you informed. Also, we are looking to put River Crest Church on the net with it’s own web site. That is a matter of prayer and will be a near future project.
Third is, what you are reading now, 'TIMES OF REFRESHING'. This official organ, of all things River Crest, will come to you periodically with love and length (but not too lengthy). We have a streak of joviality that must express it's self somewhere, so here we go. The River Line and the two web sites will be much more sober, but don’t expect that from this newsletter. I believe in reverence to the Lord, and I also believe in the joy of the Lord! This will be my time to have fun with those Rebecca and I feel are close to us.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
"WOULD IT BE OKAY IF I GIVE YOUR CHURCH LOTS OF MONEY?"
If you really really have to, we’ll adjust. ;-)
"HOW DO I CONTACT YOU GUYS?"
Glad you asked! Our current mailing address for Jim & Becky Pelletier (John & Marc) is 1170 South Palmetto Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida 32119
Phone 904-255-5501 (Dr. Parnell’s number is 904-252-5501 ! You would not believe the number of calls we get for this guy!)
"WILL TAPES BE AVAILABLE?"
Eventually we’ll have a catalog. For now I can send you a tape if you’d like one!
"WILL YOU VISIT ME, MARRY ME, OR BURY ME?"
Visit, yes! If you’re out of town and not so close, mail me a ticket and I’m there baby!
Marry? Sorry, Rebecca & I are happily for 10 years. All humor aside, we would be honored to work with you and your to-be. We do weddings and pre-marital counseling also.
Bury? I can make myself available to you and your family, if you do not have a home church pastor to call upon. These times can be difficult, the last thing you need to worry about is a church service.
"CAN I BLOCK YOUR NEWSLETTER FROM COMING TO ME WITHOUT OFFENDING YOU?"
Not without severe, possibly irreversible, trauma to my psyche.
Well, that’s it for this issue. Mostly an info and update time, but more will come next time. Thank you for being in our lives. Love and peace in Jesus.
